STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- As social distancing guidelines are firmly in place and most New Yorkers are stuck at home in the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, shark-lovers may be elated to learn that the Discovery Channel will be airing a special Shark Week marathon this weekend. Fans can also stream the marathon on fuboTV (7-day free trial).
“Shark Week in a Weekend” will begin on Saturday morning and run through Sunday evening.
The Discovery Channel’s Shark Week is an annual summer viewing event that aired for the first time on July 17, 1988.
This weekend’s marathon will feature fan-favorite episodes from past years.
“The pop culture phenomenon will take viewers to oceans around the world with a team of renowned marine biologists and science institutions to deliver groundbreaking shark stories incorporating innovative research technology and revealing compelling insight into the mysterious world of sharks,” according to the Discovery Channel.

The schedule this weekend will include these highlights:
Saturday at 1 p.m. -- “Air Jaws Strikes Back”
Air Jaws returns as shark expert Chris Fallows leads a team of researchers into a newly discovered shark vs. seal battleground at the base of a 200-foot cliff.
Saturday at 9 p.m. -- “Capsized: Blood in the Water”
Shark Week’s first full-length movie, which originally aired last year, is based on the harrowing true story of an October 1982 shark encounter. After a yacht bound for Florida capsizes during an unexpected storm, its crew is left to drift for days in the chilling waters of the Atlantic where they become prey to a group of tiger sharks. With the hope of rescue dwindling, the crew must do everything in their power to survive as the sharks continue to hunt them.
Sunday at 5 p.m. -- “Legend of Deep Blue"
Shark experts Brandon McMillan and Jimi Partington head back to Guadalupe Island to search the depths for Deep Blue, believed to be the largest great white shark in the world.
